How to Improve Online Brand Awareness: Infographic

How to create online brand awareness infographic

Got online brand awareness problems? You’re not alone, we can fix that.

Since holding our online BRAND CHATTER Webinar, we learned that our audience was having difficulties with their online brand awareness. So we developed an infographic for you to keep handy as a simple, yet effective reminder of how to be successful with your online branding strategy. Remember, it’s not just about being there – it’s about WHAT you are saying. If you are only blasting information about your company, or jumping in to hold a contest to get more fans, you are likely going to experience little, if no effectiveness. The goal is to get your audience to remember you, not just see you and forget you.

Sometimes people think that marketing is mainly a lot of creative ideas that spike up here and there. This is far from the truth. At its root, marketing has systems and processes. It is important to set up a methodology that will work for your needs, and by that we mean a method that will attract your audience. To do this takes consistency, planning and considerable thought into how your plans and actions will take shape and achieve your goals. This is not just the case with online brand awareness, but with all marketing a company does.

So here we have a bit of an extended explanation of our infographic, which we hope you will share and make good use of.

First off, CAREFULLY craft your messages. This means that you put thought into what you are saying, making sure it will resonate with your target audience. Your message should:

Use wording that is easy to remember – not too lengthy, not too technical and not lingo that only people in your industry would understand.

Accurately promote your distinctionhow are you different? Do you use a technique no one else uses?  Do you provide something as an ‘addition’ to your service or product your competitors don’t include in their offering? Can you say you’re “not just ______”? Whatever way you say it, your WORDS need to promote your distinction. Do you stand apart and lead the industry? It’s not enough to just be the “first” at something, if your competition has stolen market share away from you since you started – show how you have remained at the top of your game with something unique that you do or offer.

Be consistent and predictable in your delivery – believe it or not, when you post regularly, especially on a certain day and time, people get used to looking for your posts. Scott Berkun, an author and speaker, set up The Daily Post when he worked at Automattic, so his team would be forced to use the technology they were developing for other people. For some reason the blog took off and generated a lot of traffic, and he attributes part of that success to the name of the blog itself – it indicates when and how frequently readers can expect to get something new. Another example is Whiteboard Friday at SEOmoz – their entire community knows to expect a great, 10 minute video or quick SEO tip every Friday, which keeps people interested and coming back to their site.

Have a goal to create interest and sharing, not just to be there – if all you do is post about your company, then you can expect people will get bored. If you always post on the same topic, it may also create a lack of interest. This is a balance because you do not want to go completely off topic and share content that is not related to what you do, but on the other hand, you don’t want to be selling yourself in everything you say. One way around this is to create content themes – an area where you are an expert and can consistently show your expertise by covering an array of topics that are useful for your customers and audience to know about.

Most people tell us they suffer from “I don’t know what to say?” syndrome. We get it, and that’s where it’s important to first consider, ‘What is your message?’ – what is the main thing you want to get across to people? What will be of interest to them? What problems are you solving for your potential customers that they never thought of? That should be your starting point.

But then, it’s not just about saying it plain and simple – you need to be unique and creative about it. We see thousands of messages a day, and we just gloss over them. For example, a “No Parking” sign – we can easily not see or regard a sign like that, especially if it’s small and inconspicuous. But if the garage doorway to a warehouse says “Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever park here” it will surely catch our attention, and we will never park there.

In our next blog posts, we plan to cover the three stages of BRAND CHATTER (i.e. online brand awareness and social coherence) so you get the full know-how and step-by-step guide of what to do, how to do it, and it what order.

Hanne’s App Review – Augmented Reality

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could unlock the magic of the world with one click? And everything magically jumps to life and unveils the most fantastic augmented reality? This magic lens of an app uses your device’s camera to ‘blipp’ – instantly unlocking the world around you. Not only do you get access to exclusive information, entertainment and fantastic virtual experiences – it is also a great tool for businesses and brands to reach their consumers in a new, innovative way.

The ‘Blipp’ that Unlocks the World

blippar appThe fastest growing global technology these days is the smart-device; phones and tablets. As a result and natural development, the newest trend is so-called ‘second screen’ behavior, where consumers (aka the smart-device generation) consume traditional media on their phones or tablets.

Blippar™ is a really cool app that is in fact the first image-recognition platform aimed at bringing logos, billboards, magazines, newspapers, products or even groceries to life with instant content and thrilling augmented reality experiences. It is targeted specifically at second-screen consumer engagement – the smart-device generation. Simply activate ‘blippar mode’, look at the image through the camera lens and you will see the content magically jump to life.

Brands get to “push” their content and messaging on us consumers in a new, fancy way, and we get to enjoy their innovative instantaneous digital experiences. This content medium can really empower brands and media owners to better engage with customers. The two-dimensional abilities of the QR codes are slowly fading in popularity, while the augmented reality of Blippar™ keeps growing in popularity. After all, who wouldn’t want to experience a fun 3Desque environment with sounds, video and graphics of their favorite brands?

So, does this mean that the QR code is dead? Just as we started to get used to the QR code, there’s a new handsome, tall guy in town! Blippar™ is the shiny, new toy for anyone slightly interested in technology, smart devices or apps. More accurately – for anyone interested in a consumer experience. Who wouldn’t want to watch Will Ferrell’s ‘The Campaign’ trailer on a dollar bill?

Is that really possible? Exciting brands and media owners such as Nestle, Samsung, Xbox, Heinz and Cadbury are already ‘blippable’. Cadbury’s quirky and childishly fun game enabled by a single ‘blipp’ is a great example of consumer engagement and communications. You can ‘blipp’ any real-world item that has been set up for Blippar™, aka watching the trailer for ‘The Campaign’ on a dollar bill! Hollywood has certainly picked up on this technology and will start marketing its movies through attaching content to everyday objects for users to ‘blipp’. Clever!

It is no secret that social media and a digital approach to marketing are methods that are here to stay. These methods might even ultimately win over traditional methods of marketing someday. The timing of Blippar™ is therefore perfect as a great way of re-invigorating print advertising. The app perfectly blends the digital and traditional worlds together – your exclusive content experience is only a ‘blipp’ away!

So, is it worth your time? You won’t know until you ‘blipp’!

The Power of Webinars

A vital part of your marketing strategy is to get people talking about your brand. Know WHAT to say and HOW to say it. By providing your target audience with desired content you will influence what you want your audience to say about you, create brand awareness, brand recognition and loyalty.

Most people visit websites to learn more about a brand or service, in research mode with a goal to get educated. Whether it is to learn more about a product, a service or the company itself, they are looking for information. In other words, the content you offer your target audience provide an incomparable opportunity to show the world the personality of your company. An engaging way to utilize this opportunity is through webinars – an easy-to-digest form of communication.

Webinars are a great way to maintain, create, and expand your audience. Through webinars you can create BRAND CHATTER™ for your business while providing a rich learning environment for your audience. Interact and communicate with attendees, create a dialogue, ask or answer questions, and provide educational information. By creating a rich learning environment you feed the need to, and give an incentive, to re-visit your website and stay in touch.

Record your webinar and make it accessible on your website for non-attendees to see. Not only will this help drive traffic to your website – it will also be helpful in improving your web rankings through SEO. You can improve your search engine optimization (SEO) and overall web rankings by including relevant keywords in all your webinar promotions and on your website. A great strategy to include in your overall marketing efforts!

Hanne’s App Review – Video Production

Owning a Smartphone now means you always have a camera with you – enabling the capture of any image (or video) any place, at any time.  You can leave your bulky digital camera at home and still capture life’s great moments with the help of a trendy new video app.

There are many great (and free) photo and video apps for Smartphones out there. A few worth mentioning are Qwiki, Socialcam, Vine and Cinemagram.

Qwiki – Turning experiences into Qwiki’s!

Qwiki is a relatively new iPhone and iPod Touch app that enables digital storytelling through creation of short multimedia stories.  This app lets you turn your pictures and videos into brief movies that can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, via email or SMS, or embedded on your blog or website.  Highlight your special moments by linking photos together and by adding transitions, filters and your favorite soundtrack.  The pacing and order of images can be easily changed to fit the mood and scenario of your images.

The central feed displays recent Qwiki videos from other users, much like a Facebook or Instagram news feed, allowing you to follow other users’ feed.  You can also add hashtags to your video for increased searchability within the app.  You can choose to share your videos or have a private profile for only your friends to see.

While apps like Cinemagram and Vine have a limit of 3-6 seconds per video snippet, Qwiki gives you the artistic freedom to create longer eye-catching videos to unfold your creativity and share with the world.

Socialcam – Sharing your cat videos with the world…

With Socialcam you can easily capture, share and view your videos on your iPhone, iPod or iPad, or Android device.  Socialcam is a user friendly app for creation of videos of any length.  The custom filters and option to add soundtracks and themes to your videos makes it a fun app for personalizing your videos.

You can upload and edit existing videos and images from your camera roll (finally use all those cat videos!) or create new videos within the app, and share directly on all your social media platforms.  The news feed feature keeps you up to date on the latest video creations and uploads – ensuring you won’t miss a thing.  Browse, comment, like and follow your favorite video creators and friends, while your profile remains as private as you like.

Vine – Unleash the artist within you!

Vine is Twitter’s new micro video-sharing app for your iPhone.  This highly popular app recently had a 17+ rating added due to the appearance of age-restricted material.  When downloading the app you have to confirm you are 17+ of age.  Since there is currently no real way to confirm your age, unless parents have activated the age restriction in iTunes, this is really more a formality than anything else.

Although Vine is owned by Twitter it is not necessary to have a Twitter account to use the app.  You can login with your email address and share your videos across all your social media accounts.  The app is a full-fledged social media network which allows you to follow, like and comment on other users’ “Vines”.

Vine is easy to use and lets you create 6 second long looping video clips, capturing motion and sounds.  On the downside, you can’t use videos from your camera roll or add any form of artistic filters or effects.  Six seconds is not long and creates a ceiling as to how much effort and time can be invested into one project.

Cinemagram – The next Pixar?

Cinemagram is an easy-to-use “Instagram of video” app for creation of 2-3 second long video snippets, also known as “Cines”.  You can create your video within the app or upload from your camera roll.  Cinemagram also serves as a social network in the same way as Instagram, letting you search, browse, like and comment on your favorite videos.  Your videos can be easily shared on your Facebook, Tumblr or Twitter accounts, or via email and iMessage.

Add one of the 18 funky filters available or use the Mask feature to animate your video.   The Mask feature lets you create a hybrid between photo and video by animating parts of your video while the rest remain frozen.  This app is making Tarantino and Scorsese shake in their boots!  While the funky filters and the prospect of becoming the next Pixar are great – the downside of this app is that you can’t add any audio.  This might be a limitation to your creativity; or it might be the opposite.

All of these apps are free and can be downloaded from the App Store.  You can login with your Facebook or Twitter accounts, or with your email.  Qwiki and Socialcam are the only apps that allow you to deny and approve followers, as well as keeping your profile private.  If I had to pick one, I’d go with Qwiki, for its personalizing options and longer video capacity.  The creativity, artistic direction and execution enabled by these apps are endless.  Unfold your creative self and share your inspirational moments with the rest of the world.  It is a never-ending app world out there and only your creativity is the limit!

Hanne’s App Review – Project Management

Too Many Things To Do? This is the App for You!

What would we do without lists? We all have a need to organize our lives, to make lists and complete tasks, whether it is for business, to organize our social lives or to get the weekly groceries.  For a while now, Google has been offering a service for lists within your Gmail calendar called “Tasks” to help us organize our to-do items.  This is a great tool for gathering all your tasks in one place, although it’s most efficient while at your stationary desk.  Always being on the go made it challenging to access, edit and organize tasks when needed.

This is where GoTasks comes in.  As a Google™ Tasks user I am very excited about this great new app!  I have long been searching for an app that will allow me to gather all my tasks in one place AND let me synchronize everything across my iPhone and iPad.  GoTasks does exactly this!

GoTasks is an iPhone / iPad / iPod app that works with all your Google Apps accounts and Google™ Tasks in particular.  This free (!) app allows you to sync your Google™ Tasks with all your Apple© devices.  Organizing your to-do lists has never been easier!

This lightweight task management application lets you organize your tasks according to the GTD® (Getting Things Done) principles.  It gives you the option to create to do lists, create sub-tasks, set due dates and alarms, and schedule Google calendar reminders – without draining your device’s battery.

This app is a task management tool that allows efficient creation of several projects in one place.  Let’s say you have a Tasks List specifically titled “Projects”:  You can add sub-headings specifically for each project, with separate to do lists and alarms.  With the drag-and-drop functionality you can copy one task from one project over to another, eliminating the need to re-create the task.  Efficient, quick and easy!

“As a Project Manager looking to efficiently organize all my tasks, this free app was exactly what I was looking for.  Already entrenched into Google and Google Apps, I was thrilled to come across an app that would help me consolidate all my tasks in one place, simplifying my busy schedule.  Whether it is for personal or business purposes, this is THE app for anyone looking to organize all their tasks“.
